As nightfall cast its blanket over the now silent Camp, famous Regiments existed only in memory. Small, compact Battalions had risen to replace them and one of these was our own, with Lieutenant Colonel Ralph H. Mc Kee, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, as our first Commanding Officer. Into our hands, fate had placed the great responsibility of carrying on the rich traditions handed down to us by gallant soldiers of the past. Ours was a Battalion destined to achieve the greatness born of courage, loyalty and devotion to duty. |
